Thank you from Cycle Hayling

Voting took place yesterday on Hayling Island to decide which applications would be funded under the ‘Approved by you’ scheme.

I’m pleased to report we were one of the successful applications so we now have £500 to improve cycle signage around the Island.

Thank you to everyone that voted for us – we’ll make sure we make good use of the money.

Thanks also to Wilf – for organising our bid and the presentation on the day – and to Robert and Sue for their support.

Work about to start at the North end of the Hayling Billy Trail?

The latest progress report on the bridge works (Works Progress 7: 16th April 2014 on this page) says…

We’ll then move off the road and work on the ‘Hayling Billly 50’ Trail rebuilding, completing everything by mid June.

That’s a reference to Lottery-funded project initiated by Peter Drury as part of the Hayling Billy 50 years commemoration.

It looks like something is definitely going to happen. We understand that the project will:

  • Use the same surface as recently laid at the south end of the Billy Trail
  • Resurface a limited section of the trail (and not, as hoped, as far as the Esso Garage)

We are concerned over the quality of recent cycle path development by both Havant and Hampshire so – at Peter’s request – I have documented our concerns with an offer to help. Peter has passed them to the project board.

Concrete Recycling Plant Application .

The planning application for a Recycle Centre and depot storage facility at the Howard Car Spares site in Mill Rythe Lane has been resubmitted by Brenchley. The reference number is App/14/00204 on both the HCC and HBC websites.
The consulation closing date was 18 March, but this has now been extended to 23 April, so there is still time to make your comments.

30 mph speed limit proposed

Hampshire County Council is proposing a speed limit reduction from 40 to 30mph on the main A3023, between New Cut and Mill Rythe roundabout.

Hayling’s BEST AGM

Hayling’s BEST, the Island’s umbrella organisation for community groups and projects, is holding its AGM at 7.30 pm on Thursday 23 January at the URC Hall in Mengham. Cycle Hayling is a member group of Hayling’s BEST, and will be presenting our annual report to the meeting.

The AGM is also a chance to find out about other successful activities on the Island, such as the Hayling Billy 50 project, which recently won Lottery funding towards upgrading the Hayling Billy trail.

Everyone welcome!
