Let’s use the ferry

We understand the ferry has had a good week following its re-launch. To keep running, however, it needs us to use it as much as we can.

Cycle-commuters make ideal customers for the ferry. As a past cycle-commuter I can testify there aren’t many days in a year when weather goes against you, so you are much-valued regular income. With plenty of sunshine at the moment, there’s no better time to start. So, if you travel frequently to Portsea (or beyond), why not get on your bike and use the ferry? You’ll:

  • Enjoy your journey more
  • Experience more consistent – and maybe faster – journey times
  • Feel better and fitter¬†

Please get in touch if you need advice about routes, equipment, clothing or cycle-commuting in general. This page describes how the taxman can chip in to help.

Cycle Hayling’s been asked to nominate a trustee for the Hayling Ferry Trust. Ideally, we’d like to recommend a regular user – is that you? There’s more details about what’s involved, and who is eligible, here. Please let me know if you’re interested.

Thanks.

In the meantime, we’ve been in discussion with Hampshire and Havant councils and landowners about several projects. I’ll be back in touch shortly to let you know how you can get involved.

  1. We would like to use it more regularly but there is the price issue. Not complaining and understand about viability and costings etc, but I have always believed the ferry should be subsidised- at least for cyclists. It costs us more than twice as much to bike and ferry to Southsea than in the car. How ecologically sound is that? All this talk about Green attitudes and the fortunes spent ( and made) on useless projects, and yet nobody is encouraging people to use the ferry rather than the car.
