Speedwatch starts up on Hayling Island

It’s taken a while, but the Hayling Island Speedwatch campaign is finally up and running.

The first few sessions will be accompanied by PC Dave Wedlake. After that, the programme will be run entirely by local volunteers. The group joins existing local Speedwatch campaigns in Emsworth and Bedhampton and all the other campaigns nationwide.

The first session was in Elm Grove. It monitored 882 vehicles in a two-hour period. The team is pleased to report just one motorist met the criteria for a Police National Computer (PNC) check. If successful, they’ll be getting a letter from the police shortly.

Future sessions will take place at key locations around the Island.

If you are interested in volunteering, contact andy@cyclehayling.org who can tell you more. The campaign is fully supported by the police and uses police resources. After an initial induction session and police check, volunteers can expect to spend 2-3 hours every fortnight, or so, working in a team of three.
